2015 Caroline Reads
For our inaugural year, Caroline County will explore the Japanese American internment during World War II, as well as Japanese culture. During the month of March, the Library will be exploring this topic through crafts, documentary screenings, special events, and a book discussion.
The book the entire system will be reading is When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka. There will be discussions online here on our blog and in small groups at some of our branches. The main discussion will be held at the Ladysmith Branch, where Todd Munson, Ph.D. will host the discussion, as well as origami. This month's Get Crafty series is also getting into the spirit. The adult Get Crafty sessions will be Japanese heraldry coasters and the teens will be making Japanese flying carp. This month's special events will be a talk with cherry blossom expert and national author, Ann McClellan, and the featured lecturer will be Lily Anne Yumi Welty Tamai, Ph.D., Curator of History at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, please check out our other pages by selecting from the tabs above or one of the buttons below. We hope to see you at our great upcoming events!
