Each branch of Caroline Library will be hosting several events throughout the month of March to celebrate Caroline Reads. To see when each branch will be presenting these events, please select the branch from the drop-down menu above.
Screening of The Legacy of Heart Mountain"Heart Mountain is a spectacular and beautiful backdrop to a story of triumph and tragedy. Seventy years ago, an internment camp filled with 10,000 Japanese Americans sat in the shadow of the mountain - imprisoned behind barbed wire and guard towers for no other reason than because of their heritage... Japanese American internment is one of the most profound chapters of American history. The film's mission is to keep history alive. The more who know, hopefully, will rise to defend future attacks on civil liberties and personal freedom." - from the film

Book Club - When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka"Julia Otsuka's When the Emperor was Divine follows one Japanese family uprooted from its Berkeley home after the start of World War II. Using five distinct but intertwined perspectives, Otsuka's graceful prose evokes the family's range of responses to internment. Culminating in a final brief and bitter chapter, Otsuka's novel serves as a requiem for moral and civic decency in times of strife and fragmentation." - from the Big Read Reader's Guide
